What Makes a Luxury Bathroom

Posted on December 7th, 2017 by stonetileliquidators

The master bathroom is the one room in a home remodel project that is, across all generations, being transformed into a luxury spa. Younger homeowners are preparing not only for their own future age-in-place needs but are also preparing for the possibility of caring for their own elderly parents. The exploding demand of the most recent few years is documenting what is defining today’s luxury bathroom.

Space is a necessity even if walls need to be pushed out to achieve the free-flowing high-end spa feel. A walk-in shower and a freestanding artfully designed pedestal tub, with or without jets, are mandatory. However, the tub must be ergonomic with head and arm rests. Materials must be textured and be made of three-dimensional porcelain or ceramic tile, stone, granite, glass and marble. Heated floors and towel warmers are necessities and adjustable flow shower heads that play music are soothing. Vanities being designed today can be adjustable to any height and also appear to float. Sinks are often chosen because they resemble an object of art that is also functional.

The color palette consists of muted tones while color is found in bold towels to accent the neutrals and the textures of the surrounding materials. Popular vanities are sometimes bold in tone to make a visual statement, but must be topped with granite, marble or quartz. Beautifully designed tiling can include waves of soft color that are patterned and accent the boldness of the vanity. The tiles can be installed on the walls as well as the floor.  Tiles patterned in dramatic designs must convey a sensual, serene spa-like feel. This is the message homeowners are willing to pay for and the ambience they demand.
